Ohio Players
The Best of Ohio Players: 20th Century Masters, the Millennium Collection
(Mercury)
Like too many of the titles in the “Millennium Collection’’ series, this twelve-track best-of by a group with a boxed set and a greatest-hits collection or two already in print is useful mainly for its cordial $11.98 price. In these days of $1.40-a-gallon gas, however, budget considerations count for something, especially with a group responsible for “Love Rollercoaster,” “Fopp,” “Fire,” and “Who’d She Coo.” If only the thoughtful compilers at Mercury had remembered “Funky Worm.” If only they’d forgotten the faux-Commodores slow ones. Rating: Three-and-a-half sweet sticky things out of five.
