Supreme Beings of Leisure
Supreme Beings of Leisure
(Palm Pictures)
When is a subtle trancey dance band too subtle? When its frontwoman sings like Sade and the band itself brings Soul II Soul into the ’tronica age? When the band’s press kit makes more of the ethnically diverse backgrounds of the members than of the hooks of the predominantly groove-oriented songs? When the DVD single featuring videos of “Strangelove Addiction” (the catchy first single and best song) and “You’re Always the Sun” feels more substantial than the full-length CD? When the second-best song, “Naughty Boy,” is available only on the DVD single, which lists for $7.98 and is available at finer record stores everywhere? Rating: Three-and-a-half all of the aboves out of five.
